Ducklington Parish Council considered the planning application submitted by West Oxfordshire Motor Auctions and after a debate decided to strongly object on these grounds:

• The Parish Council is of the opinion that the road network in this area will not safely support the use of this site for the proposed purpose, and that if the application is granted, there will be a significant increase in the risk of road traffic accidents in the area. This is contrary to policy BE3 of the West Oxfordshire Local Plan.
• There is a risk that vehicles will be parked on the grass verges near the site entrance, obstructing the junction of the A415 and the road to Aston, and also potentially within the village of Ducklington on the residential streets and in the Parish Council car park. Pedestrians would be forced to cross the A415 to both arrive and leave, which would significantly compromise their safety and the safety of vehicles using the A415.
• The location is not on a public transport route and there are no bus stops in the vicinity. All journeys associated with the business will therefore be by motor car, which is contrary to policy T1 of the current West Oxfordshire Local Plan.
• A large, fully lit site such as the one covered by this planning application will be extremely obtrusive in the environment of this currently completely unlit area, located as it is, in the countryside. This would be contrary to policy H2 of the West Oxfordshire Local Plan

The Parish Council decided to strongly object on these grounds.

Any resident who has an opinion about this development is encouraged to make their views known to the District Council Planning Department as soon as possible. Local views count.

The A415 is to be closed for 9 days in February 2011

Temporary Traffic Regulation Order – S14 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
Temporary Road Closure – Witney A40 (B4022 to A415)
A request has been received from Chevron Highways for a temporary overnight road closure to apply to both carriageways of the A40 at Witney, between the A415 and the B4022 junctions, whilst essential overhead power line removal works are carried out.
A temporary Traffic Regulation Order is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate overnight (22.00 to 06.00) for two nights on 3 and 4 March 2012.  (The maximum duration of such a temporary closure is 18 months or until completion of the works whichever is the earlier.)

Notice of intention to make the Order will be published in the local press.

Limited access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles, subject to the progress of the works.
A copy of the drawing showing the extent of the closure and also the alternative routes for traffic is attached.
Please note that road closures are generally signed from junction to junction. This is to deter drivers from driving right up to the closure points and then having to reverse or make tight turns.

Thames Valley Police

Thames Valley Police is due to go live with 101, the new national single non-emergency number on 14 November 2011, which will replace the 0845 8 505 505 number. Both numbers will run side by side until the end of March, but if demand for the 0845 8 505 505 number drops it may be discontinued earlier.

Calls to 101 (from both landlines and mobile networks) cost 15 pence per call, no matter what time of day the call is made, or the duration of the call.

Everyone calling the police for non-emergency matters will now know exactly how much a call will cost them, and can be assured of equal access whether they are on a pay-as-you-go mobile or a home landline

The routeing will be based on the same system as 999 calls which links a caller’s dialling code to the police force that covers that geographic area. Calls from a landline will be routed to the nearest police force that covers the area’s dialling code. If the caller is using a mobile, the call will be routed using the location of the mast that the phone is transmitting from.

If a call is made to 101 within a force area that has not yet ‘gone live’, the caller will hear a recorded message telling them to redial using the relevant non emergency number.

Glebelands Play Area

Ducklington Parish Council needs your help to replace the broken Zip-Wire at the Glebelands Play Area site.

The Parish Council is seeking grant funding to replace the broken zip-wire with a new steel version. Our case with the funding organisations will be strengthened if we are able to show that the project has community support.

If you would like to see it replaced please contact the council, either by post or via the contact us page and let us know how much fun you have had using it and how much you would like to see it replaced.

All responses will be collated and will be used to support our application.

We would like to see this fun and important play area restored as soon as possible, so please don’t delay in getting in touch!

Witney Lions Club

Witney Lions Club was established in 1969 and is a part of the largest completely voluntary Service Organisation in the world, Lions Clubs International. There are 45,000 clubs in 192 countries with 1.4million members, of which 944 clubs and 20,000 members are in the U.K. and Ireland.

Each club is independent as to how it is run and how funds are raised and distributed to whatever needy cause or person they feel they should support. The vast majority of the funds Witney Lions raise are from events such as the Carnival and our Christmas street collections. These are distributed within the local community and surrounding areas. Witney Lions currently has 26 members and would like more. There are no restrictions to becoming a member. All that is required is a commitment to be prepared to help those less fortunate than ourselves. We also have a very active Social Events Calendar.

Alongside the important Welfare and Fundraising functions of the Club, a good number of social events are organised with the intention of developing fellowship and good relations between members.

As no Lion has to attend any event, it is up to the Social Secretary to offer as varied and interesting a programme as possible.
